Meet TV antiques expert Alison Chapman who will brief you on the day’s Finders Keepers Antiques Game. Each person will be given a crisp ten pound note, play the game alone or pool your tenner to make a team, you decide the tactics! There’s 90 minutes to find some treasure in the nearby Malt House arcade and the antique and charity shops of Hythe, Kent.

Back at the pub your included lunch is served and over coffee Alison will evaluate the findings and select the winner(s) during an entertaining show and tell session. If no one has unearthed a Ming vase the winner or winning team will be chosen for the most unusual find, the most aesthetically pleasing junk or, of course, the find with the best potential profit. All items purchased by game contestants are awarded to the winner(s). It really is Winner takes all! Includes morning tea/coffee, two course lunch, your £10 to spend and tea/coffee during the evaluation. Arrive Hythe around 10.30am and depart for home 3pm approx.

THE GREAT STINK

In 1858 the long hot summer became the Great Stink as raw sewage from the growing city emptied into the Thames turning into an open sewer. Something had to be done and this led to one of the most remarkable feats of civil engineering ever seen. Visit Sir Joseph Bazalgette’s Cathedral of Sewage – The Crossness Treatment Works at Bexley – where the finest Victorian ornamental cast ironwork can be seen and discover how the Victorians disposed of the city’s raw sewage. Your day starts with guided city tour – part walking and part coach – revealing the story of “spending a penny”, then cruise from Westminster to maritime Greenwich. Bring a picnic to eat on board as you glide by the famous landmarks along the Thames. You then reboard the coach for your transfer to the amazing Grade I listed Crossness. This interesting and well planned day includes tea and biscuits, a guided tour, Thames cruise and visit to the amazing Crossness.
